The above image was just taken from the Wichita radar. You can see a nearly solid line of strong to severe thunderstorms extending from the Nebraska border Northeast of Concordia, to near Newton and Wichita, to the Oklahoma border South of Wichita. Average individual storm movement is North to North/Northeast at 35 mph, while the line is moving East at 15-20 mph.
Hail up to 1 inch in diameter and wind gusts of 50-60 mph have been the main types of severe weather reported with this activity over the past hour.
As the evening progresses, the threat of damaging winds will increase, with some gusts in excess of 80 mph possible. In addition, tornadoes are also possible with some of this activity, particularly within the Northern half of the line, mainly before sunset.
If you live along or ahead of this line of storms, please keep abreast of the weather and be prepared to seek shelter immediately if threatening conditions approach your area.
If you live in western Missouri, this line of storms will affect your region by late this evening and early tonight. Damaging winds will be the primary threat by that time. Continue to monitor the weather and have a plan of action ready for the overnight hours. A NOAA Weather Radio with battery back-up would be a very good idea with this nighttime severe weather threat.
