TODAY'S WEATHER ACROSS UK & EUROPE By Mark Vogan

Healthy rain-bearing system to push into southwest England early Sunday and progress northwards, heat holds strong over southern and eastern Europe

A well advertised rain-system will trek into Devon and Cornwall overnight tonight and push northwards throughout tomorrow. Increasing winds as well as heavy and persistent rains will make for a poor day travelwise and to simply be out and about. It will be later in the afternoon in which we see this band of rain enter southern Scotland asnd eventualloy reaching central Scotland by early Monday.

As for Spain and southern France eastwards across Italy, the Balkans into Greece and coastal Turkey, temperatures remain warm to hot with highs throughout reaching 25 to 30C but showers are always possible, especially in hilly or mountainsout areas. Further north up into Germany and Poland, temperatures remain cooler with slightly more unsettled weather thanks to the conflict between higher pressures to the south and lower pressures to the north and northwest. Further east, a band of stormy weather continues to exist from central Scandinavia down to Turkey. The far east of Europe remain downright hot.

Blistering heat continues across sunscorched South while thunderstorm alley aligns from Central Plains to Southern New England

The blowtorch has finally been erased from both the Northern Plains and Northeast/Mid-Atlantic regions, however, it isn't gone from all areas. The arid Southern Plains remains beneath devilish heat as the high pressure system which brought the 100s to the Northern Tier has been merely pushed ands squashed down to the south thanks to the passing of a storm to the north. The heat now focuses down over the Southern Plains and Southeast while strong to potentially severe thunderstorms loom this evening and throughout tonight across the central plains, Mississippi and Ohio Valleys to the populated Northeast corridor thanks to a stalled frontal boundary.

The graphic below shows the patternj while the one below this shows clearly where the severe weather and or strong thunderstorms will target.

WEATHER TALK
By Mark Vogan

Low Pressure dominated pattern produced sunshine but also very heavy, thundery rains!

With a stubborn trough and low pressure system dominating the UK weather pattern, unfortunately we've gotten use to good spells of sunshine that have dissappeared and dark, billowing clouds pushing in and dumping a hefty rain shower. That was certainly the case today after some glorious sunshine across much of the Central Lowlands. After brilliant blue skies, darkening skies arrived across the Greater Glasgow area. I was driving up over Fenwick moor in Ayrshire when I saw progressively darkening skies over Greater Glasgow.

Once I reached the join of the M77 to M8 at Plantation in Glasgow, spits of rain turneds to blinding rains underneath a heavy, enveloping storm cloud which forced drivers to switch on headlights and slow down. It rained heavy enough that standing water became an almost instant problem.

It's all part and parcel of the up and down daily weather pattern created by an upper low which continues spinning over the UK creating unsettled conditions. A little surface warming thanks to the time of year, enhances these rains and the lift in the atmosphere, helping the formation of thunderstorms and hail.

Looming dark clouds bubbling up over Glasgow from the M77

Heavy cloud and rain shaft hanging over Glasgow as seen from M77

This was the result of that looming cloud once I got into Glasgow... This was the scene heading along the M8 in Glasgow at around 12.25pm, just 15 minutes after taking the above photos.
