Weather Talk

Low off East Coast helping kick in ocean breezes and remove 100s from Northeast, but air feeling like a Steam Bath!

Despite the large storm system progressing slowly coastward and this allowed a more energetic sea breeze which trimmed beach temps from Delaware to Long Island significantly yesterday by as much as 10 degrees off the day before where highs topped the mid-90s even on the sands of the Del, Jersey, Long Island shores, the sea breezes punched temps from yet another brutalalizing 100+ from DC to Manhattan, the temps just a few hours off their peak fell through the 80s! Unfortunately, as those air temps dropped, the humidity levels have been steadily growing and 70s are effecting all of the Northeast, making those streets of DC, Baltimore, Philly and New York City unbearable and making the air "feel" much much hotter indeed. In fact highs today have only barely topped 89-90 in Philly and perhaps only upper 80s for New York, but humidity is making it feel practically as hot as it was yesterday, however coastal areas are much better with a cooling sea breeze and highs only in the 70s...

A front associated with the storm off the East Coast was expected to bring showers and storms off the ocean and towards the cities, however, it appears to me as those these showers and storms haven't really materialized and they have only been spotty in nature.

Another front, coming from the much more typical western horizon is the boundary that will usher true relief to Easterners and should remove the stiffling humidity that has gradually been worsening through this heatwave and may be peaking as of this evening. The front which should come tomorrow evening or Saturday will drop highs back to the low to mid-80s! wow, what a relief! as well as bring some substantial rains and likely thunderstorms, some of which may become severe in isolated areas.

Another heatwave knocking on the door next week!

I'm sorry to say, but more 90s will return on the backside of the front that drives through within the next 36 or so hours and we will likely see the return of steamy, southern air but it looks liekly this next bout of heat won't be as brutal as the last, lets hope the power that was lost to thousands across the Northeast can be restored soon.

UK split between summer and not!

Unfortunately, us folks of Scotland and Northern Ireland continue to endure pretty poor weather with persistent breezy, cool and very showery weather with highs if we're lucky, climbing into the upper 60s but we have endured days in which we've barekly topped 60 degrees... All associated with us being on the wrong side of a boundary stationed over southern Scotland and northern England. Low pressure continues to spin cooler, more unsettled air with lowerr heights aloft!, further south it's high pressure in control and has been for weeks. We did see a cooldown from last weeks "very warm to borderline hot" weather over the Midlands to southeast with highs dropping to around 70-72 in London but pressures have risen (not up here, unfortunately) and we are once again seeing persistent sunshine from Birmingham to London and highs are climbing back to between 82-86 degrees.... London to East Anglia once again will see for the next several days highs push 88 degrees to perhaps even 90 fior the first time this year but what may be worse is the warmest nights of summer. If folks in the Southeast of England thought mid-60s was bad for "warm nights".; London may be ready to see lows only fall to 70 degrees.. We all know what upper 80s by day and 70 by night feels like in a non AC's home!! Just horrible.. That is what will be heading Londoners way I'm affraid... See I told you, you'd have a tough summer for heat.... Just remember, it could be worse as folks across in New Jersey and adjacent states have endured 100s by day and 80s by night WITHOUT AC simply because the grid is old and overstressed.

All we need up here in the north is a slight northward push of the Azores high and we'll be able to enjoy some of the southeast's heat! Afterall my warmest here is only 76 degrees for the year so far!
