southwest
EXTREME HEAT is building across the Deserts of the Southwest to Pacific Ocean and we are going to see the hottest day of 2010 in some spots with Las Vegas being one of those locations today and ALL spots will likely top their highest levels over the next few days. Powerful upper-level high pressure and an intense surface high will support fierce heating of the surface, aided by the arid, desert terrain to produce highs well into the 110s for most locales east of the coast range, we are going to see near 100 today as close to the ocean as Downtown LA, 80s will make it to the beaches, wow!, yes no marine layer.
HIGHS FOR THE SOUTHWEST: Las Vegas 112, Phoenix 115, Palm Springs 115, Riverside 105, Los Angeles (Civic Center) 98, Woodland Hills 106, Baker 116, Barstow 114, Laughlin 118 and Death Valley perhaps a 125 is not out of the question for today!
northwest
It's going to be hot for the PNW as well as points further south today as strong high pressure is in control and will produce a high of 80 at Seattle, near 90 or better at Portland whilst 90s and 100s hit east of the mountains. We should see 88 at Cut Bank and 92 at Billings in Montana, whilst Boise tops 96, Salt Lake 95 & Denver 94. Further west and Reno will likely surpass 100 today, Redding 107-110, Red Bluff likewise, further south and Sacramento may top around 103-105.
southeast & florida
The Southeast will see lots of strong July sun and hot temperatures with highs throughout topping 90. New Orleans to Atlanta it should be in the 92-95 degree range with cooler and stormier weather for southeast Georgia and throughout Florida where highs will range from 85-92 degrees with a high chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Lows should range from 75-80 degrees tonight.
northeast & mid-atlantic
A much more plesant weather regime today across the Northeast as skies clear out, we should see lots of sun and comfortable highs ranging from 78 up in Boston, 85 in NYC and a warmer 94 down in the Balt-DC area. Tonight lows should range from 60s in Boston to mid-70s in DC.
northern plains
Exceptional dew points pushing 80 as far north and central Illinois and likely into the 80s for Iowa will make the mid-80s to around 90 feel unbearable indeed. Storms as you can imagine is likely throughout the Mid-Mississippi Valley whilst drier, cooler air exists to the north and west6 across the Dakotas where highs will likely reach only the low to mid-80s today. Minneapolis is likely to top 85 whilst 90 should be reached at Chicago wityh a strong to even severe thunderstorm complex likely to develop and move across the region late this afternoon or tonight! Lows range from the mid-70s from Chicago to Minneapolis, 50s and 50s and 60s across western Minnesota into the Dakotas. St Louis to Kansas City is likely to extreme about as steamy of a day as they'll likely ever experience as dew points temps push the low 80s and high push the low 90s! Tonight after a low this morning of 83 at St Louis, the low will likely only fall to around 80-84 from KS to SL.
southern plains
A hot one once again for the southern plains with abundant sunshine and a high of around 96 for Houston, 98 for Dallas, 96 for Lubbock and 94 for San Antonio. Lows will be around 75-80 tonight!
