BERMUDA AWAITS THE POTENTIAL "BLOW OF A LIFETIME"

Will Igor live up to the hype? Most fail to do so....
Residents and vistors await the arrival of a monster hurricane, but for it's vast expanse of wind field, nearly 600 miles across, not for it's wind speeds as much as the storm as I expected has weakened further and followed suit of past storms that became "hyped" on appraoch, only to find they weaken. With Igor's case I believed that not only would he trek over cooler waters but he's beginning to experience weather from the continental US and that comes often by pushing dry air off the land and the system then ingests it into it's circulation. It is also a "tired" storm, one that's been going on a long time now and one that peaked quite sometime ago now, all these factors I believe play a role in weakening a storm.

Igor also broadened it's expanse, stretching it's wind field out so far that it would need a tremendous amount of energy avilable in and around the storm to continue supporting the nessesery fuel needed for 100mph winds around the center and of course the tropical storm force winds which spread over 500 miles from it's core. The spreading out of the circulation is of course a sure sign of weakening with less concentration of energy at the center and having to spread it's available energy all the way across the storm if tough to do so, therefore it's weakened to cat 1 with 85 mph winds.

So, Bermuda will not get the same hit from Igor as it did Fabian of 2003, however the size of Igor will create a situation where it gets battered for perhaps over 24 hours with at least tropical storm force winds, torrential rains, battering waves and storm surge. There is likely to be some 75 to 85 mph winds period a period of time, more so, if the center passes over or within say 50 miles from the island, therefore creating some damage, more than what tropical storm force winds would do.
