I was on the road from 3.40am yesterday till 12.05am this morning, drove 746 miles down to Burford, Oxfordshire (South-central England) and back and had a glorious day of sun and warmth while walking the around Cotswold Wildlife Park... Day Trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park @ Burford, Oxfordshire, England
For a great day trip, I personally recommend a visit to the Cotswold Wildlife Park which is located near Burford, Oxfordshire. Although a day trip for me is outwith the vast majority's limits of driving inside 24 hours, I enjoy driving and often take things to the next level. For example, in one day, I've driven from Kirkintilloch/Lennoxtown to John O'Groats and back, Cardiff in South Wales and back as well as 2 trips down to the Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford in Oxfordshire where my wife's uncle lives and works. The return drive tallies up 746 miles but it's well within reach with arrival down at Burford around 10.30am yesterday, a relaxing walk around the Park and a departure of 5pm gets you back Lennoxtown, north of Glasgow by midnight. I advise that if you live or are visiting friends, family or vacationing in the South of England and looking for a great day and afternoon away, the Cotswold Wildlife Park is the place to go since it's a great day for all the family, all ages and it's literally located in the geographic centre of Southern England. It's very accessable and well within reach of major towns and cities such as Bristol to the southwest, Birmingham to the north and London to the southeast, all within 75-80 miles of the Park! If staying in the area, your near to the city of Oxford, Cheltenham, Glouchester as well as surrounded by quaint little middle England hamlets nestled within the heart of some of England's most beautiful rolling countryside.
During my wife, Karen, her mum, Alison and I's visit to the Park, we fed the Lion, Chandra, fed the Jiraffes and I got the chance to walk in amongst the Wolves! There is countless animals in which you can get up, close and personal with and we had a great day.

TODAY'S WEATHER ACROSS UK & EUROPE By Mark Vogan
UK to endure more unsettled weather this weekend and into next week, Rain threatens start to Wimbledon
It has rained ALL Day here in Lennoxtown and it appears that the weekend ahead will bring continued dissapointment for much of the UK as a large upper low pressure system controls our weather pattern.
Heavy rains soak London tonight, coastal winds may reach 50mph
Tonight will see two bands of heavy rains, one over stretched from the west Midlands and across much of Wales, the other across the Southeast of England and up the east coast. Showers and even the odd thunderstorm may accompany these heavy and persistent rains. Blustery conditions also accompany this wet weather with exposed coasts perhaps seeing gusts to 50 mph before easing by morning.
Tomorrow, we rains turn more showery rather than persistent, like today but many areas won't see sunshine at all. Daytime highs won't range a great deal with most areas from north to south only reaching between 15-17C, yes, that's a UK-wide temperature spread thanks to all the cloud and widespread showers that will dominate most areas of the UK and Ireland.
As for Sunday, Southern and central England appears to see a little more sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures. We may see 19 to 21C showing up across the favoured warm spots of Surrey, Sussex, Kent and East Anglia. The further north you go and closer to low pressure, the more cloud and rain you'll see as well as cooler temperatures in response to these wet, dull conditions.
A dissapointing start to Wimbledon next week?
Unfortunately NEXT week appears to remain very unsettled and cool as low pressure that remains stationary off NW Europe will nudge back into the heart of UK airspace, this reinforces cloudcover and rain showers for Southeast England as well as the rest of the UK. From Monday through Wednesday of next week, Scotland sees mostly cloudy conditions with outbreaks of rain and blustery conditions at times. Showers and clouds remain persistent further south into the heart of the Midlands and into the South of England keeping things cool and dissapointing for late June. The start of Wimbledon looks to be threatened by rain showers. I shall provide a more wider look across Europe in tomorrow's post!
TODAY'S WEATHER ACROSS AMERICA By Mark Vogan
Same areas at threat of heavy rains and thunderstorms through this weekend, more 100s for Texas/Oklahoma, 90s for Deep South and Florida
Like we've seen over the past several days now, the upper level high remains too powerful to break down over the Southern Plains, but remains just weak enough around it's outer edges to allow a 'twin trough' to push south on it's western and eastern side (over New Mexico) and (Tennessee, Georgia) on the eastern edge of the high, this has been allowing upper level energy to support strong to severe thunderstorms to roam and roar across the Mid-Mississippi Valley, through the Tennessee Valley and even into the northern Alabama and Georgia. More storm clusters have been forming further north and roaring across the Ohio Valley, through the central Plains of Kansas and north Oklahoma into Kansas and eastwards across Indiana and Ohio towards DC and Baltimore all the way east.
The western trough will deepen over the Pacific Northwest/N. Rockies and with a frontal boundary both seperating the hot, humid air to the south with cooler, drier air to the north and providing lots of energy, we are going to continue seeing these same areas of the central plains, Mississippi/Tennessee/Ohio valleys and even into the Mid-Atlantic at threat of very heavy rains and thunderstorms through this weekend. The blowtorch 100s remain persistent over Texas while 90s stretch across the Deep South and Florida.
Drought Coverage Sets Record
The severe drought remains critical across much of Texas, much of the Deep South and into Florida. Due to the nasty ground-atmosphere feedback really taking it's toll with a far too strong upper level ridge of high pressure because of the drought, we are seeing an excelleration in the intensification and coverage of the drought. The drought coverage and severity has broken a record.
It's no surprise that we're seeing so many long-standing daily, monthly and yes, even all-time high's fall from Texas to Florida. Tallahassee's recent 105 degree high was the hottest reading there in recorded history and in Texas, Houston's two consecutive 105 degree highs was not only a record for June but the hottest temperature there since the all-time record setting 109 degree high was recorded back in September 2001.
