THE COLDEST INHABITATED SETTLEMENT ON EARTH IS RUNNING 6.7 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL FOR FEBRUARY'S FIRST 21 DAYS

Helsinki, Tallinn, St Petersburg, Moscow nearing 10-Consecutive Nights Below Zero

Lows have been persistently below zero (-18C) in the far eastern cities of Europe with lows falling to as cold as 20 below zero (-29C) in Helsinki and 17 below zero (-27C) at Tallinn, Estonia over recent nights with much colder levels in surrounding areas away from the urban effects. The cold has been very impressive in this part of the world the past two weeks and appears to remain just as cold in the coming days..

Record cold in Sweden - 16 Feb 11 - Tonight in the Naimakka-area (northernmost part of Sweden) in the county of Norrbotten they got a record cold of -42,6C. The latest record-cold were yesterday with -42C. Got this from SMHI (Swedish meteorological and Hydrological institute).  -From a reader in Sweden

Record cold in Italy: -48.3 degrees - 19 Jan 11 - This is the coldest ever recorded in Italy. The new national minimum temperature was touched last December 27, 2010 in Fradusta Busa, a valley at 2606 meters above sea level where cold air comes out of the Pale di San Martino, in the Dolomites.
