Northern Minnesota welcomes America's first -30s of winter!

This morning dawned as Minnesota and much of the northern tier of the US shivered the the lowest readimngs of winter so far. At 34 below zero, Babbit, Minnesota takes the frozen cake for coldest so far with a 32 below zero at International Falls a close runner up. Whilst Minneapolis was a relatively balmier -8 and Chicago +7, tonight promises to see the first sub 10-below zero reading in Minneapolis and first zero or colder in Chicago as winter tightens it's grip across the Lower 48.

Today's Extremes here at my house

High: 28 degrees
Low: 16 degrees

TODAY'S CONDITIONS
Snowcover: 2 inches
Another day well below seasonal averages for the time of year and yet another day which didn't get out of the 20s here locally thanks to patchy 2 inch snowcover remaining on the ground and yes, it's frozen solid as temperatures remain low 24 hrs a day. It really was a beautiful day with abundant winter sunshine outside of those persistent and stubborn patches of freezing fog which lingered  particularly over central belt areas throughout much of the day. Tonight like last night has already as of 8pm dropped back into the teens and it's likely to fall towards the 16 degree mark like it was this morning.

Thanks for reading.
-Mark
