YOUR AMERICAN REGIONAL FORECAST

northern plains
a stormy day expected for many areas across the northern plains as the latest Pacific storm rolls west to east today, trimming highs to only the 60s and 70s from Bismarck to Minneapolis. Some thunderstorms may become severe through this afternoon.
southern plains
Rain is expected across many areas of Texas and Oklahoma with breezy weather over OK. Highs will warm into the 90s across the southern states with 100s for the West Texas deserts. 105 degrees for El Paso where thunderstorms won't be an issue but clear, sunny skies and heat will.
northeast
A beautiful Tuesday for Northeasterns with upper 60s under a rain chance for northern New York state and across New England. For Boston a high should top out around 70 degrees under sun and low to mid-70s down around the New York City, Philly down to DC areas. Virginia and into the Carolinas is where there is always a chance of heat induced storms as well as higher temperatures from southern suburbs of DC, west into Virginia and south into the Carolinas. Highs may range from 80 in DC to 85 in Richmond. Charlotte on south and southwest you push towards 90.
Humidity is low and should make for a glorious early June day for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states today.
southeast
Today will be a hot one for you folks across the Southeast region today with highest humidity will be found the further towards the Gulf you are. Afternoon heat induced storm chances cover pretty much anywhere today as high pressure dominates and a southerly flow off the Gulf will bring heat indexes today of 100-115. Louisiana, and central/southern sections of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia should warm into the low to mid-90s with dew points ranging from 68 in Atlanta to near 80 in New Orleans. Highs should top 90 in Atlanta with mostly sunny skies, you watch for afternoon thunderstorms in isolated areas. Much of Florida will be around 90-93 with high humidity and a chance of afternoon t-storms as usual with higher chances south of Orlando, a classic summer set-up across Fla. Heat Indexes will be between 95-100 for central and north, and 100-110 for South Fla where humidity values are "very tropical".
southwest
Another hot one from Tucson to Vegas. Highs today will be 107 in Phoenix, 105 in Vegas and around 105-108 for the low deserts of Calif including Palm Springs. LA should enjoy mostly sunny skies and a high near 80. Low 70s along the beaches. Death Valley should warm to around 117 this afternoon.
northwest
A reasonable day for the Northwest with sunshine through much of the day from Portland and Seattle with highs warming to around 70-72 degrees, light rains should turn heavier and more persistent through tonight.
San Francisco will enjoy a pleasant, typical early summer day with a high around 68, under morning fog and afternoon part sunshine.

Weather Talk

BLISTERING HOT NOT ONLY IN SOUTHWEST BUT ACROSS FLORIDA ALSO!

Whilst the 100s showed up once again across a region from West Texas to Palm Springs, Calif, though the air temperature wasn't above 100 for Florida, the heat index values certainly were with some people saying that the heat across South Florida was very uncomfortable to near unbearbale as highs topped 95 degrees at Miami and 97 degrees at West Kendal. A very summerlike pattern controls Florida like you'd expect with a strong Bermuda high sitting over South and central Florida, the south flow is pumping very humid, Caribbean air up from Cuba and the Caribbean into an area where strong sinking is taking place, those two factors of upper 70 to low 80 dew point air and the mid-90 degree air has been creating afternoon realfeels near or even above 110 degrees. Very dangerous indeed. Of course that type of heat and humidity combo and a sea breeze stirs maximum instability within the atmosphere and therefore, though spotty in nature, powerful and damaging thunderstorms blow up and this creates intense downpours, damagaing winds and dangerous lightening. A near every afternoon occurance but each and every day posses the same dangers, that can't be taken lightly.

TROUGH WHICH HAS BROUGHT RETURN TO COOLER, MORE UNSETTLED WEATHER APPEARS TO BE HERE TO STAY FOR LONGER THAN FIRST THOUGHT

From the 90s again today across Florida, I recorded a high today here at my house of a rediculously cool 56 degrees with rain falling allday. The same story for much of the UK today as the trough has now shoved the high back south and unfortunately I don't see the return of the high quite as soon as first thought as latest forecast modeling is showing more persistent lingering of the trough and the warmth is to push north but west and east of us here in Britain. Central and eastern European countries appear to be in for downright hot times whilst we remain cool and unsettled.... One good thing is however, that models do change and though the models suggest a persistency of the trough over Britain, it may change and we may see a return to warmth sooner, but that's me perhaps only hoping, we'll see...

Vagaries of the Weather
India & Sub-Continental Asia Weather
By Rajesh Kapadia

Tuesday, June 08, 2010

The remnants of "Phet", while passing over the baked and over heated mainland in the Northern/North-Western Sub-continent regions, has precipitated fairly good rains and helped cool down the parched landmass substantially.Ironically, the Thar Desert on either side of the International Border, received the maximum amounts of rain in the past 2 days. And has resulted in bringing a "comfort zone" in the region .

In Pakistan, the heaviest rains were given in yesterday's blog, while even on Monday, some heavy falls were measured: (In Cms): Hyderabad=6Chhor=5,Nawabshah=4.Mirpurkhas=2,Chor=2.

On the Indian side, the heaviest falls in Rajasthan on Sunday/Monday in cms were: Pokran 12, Jaisalmer 11,Phalodi 9,Jaisalmer Tehsil 9,Nokh 7 and Fatehgarh 6.In Gujarat: Kalyanpur 11, Mandvi 9,Lalpur 8,Rajkot AP 7, Jamnagar 7, Bhuj 6.

From an unbelievable 53c in the Sindh onin the last week of May, cities in the region like Sibi cooled down to a high of 38c on Monday. And the late May record heat, with several 52s and 53s in the region, is over and forgotten, with the highest yesterday in Turbat peaking 39c. On Monday, even the the frequent topper, Nawabshah was at 34c.
