northeast
A much cooler and well welcome weather map for the Northeast as the front is overhead and producing heavy rain and thunderstorms up and down the I-95, somes areas may recieve upwards of 4-6 inches of rain but a uniform 1-2 inches is expected from interior to coastal areas. Highs should be in the LOW 80S from DC to Boston with perhaps Boston being warmest at around 83, whilst New York City down through Philly, Baltimore and DC top out at around 80-82, what a chance isn't it! Lows tonight should range from the 50s and 60s over the interior to low and mid-70s in the cities of the I-95 as the air remains extremely moist and sticky despite the cooler actual air temps.
southeast
After a few days of extreme day throughout particularly the interior Southeast where highs topped another 100 at Mongomery and 96 at Atlanta, a front will raise thunderstorm chances with most areas likely to experience rain and temps that should hold to around 90 at best. New Orleans may top around 89-91 whilst Atlanta may enjoy some cooling t-storms and a high, a much more pleasant 89 degrees... Lows will be in the 70s throughout the Southeast.
southwest & northwest
The classic summer pattern continues and as we reach the mid point of July, we are seeing the advancement north of the Great Basin high which has pumped day all the way to the Canadian border. Where it has been cooler and with a more promanent marine layer has been of course the California coast and remains the case with slightly below normal temps again today with 60s and 70s at the beach and only 76-78 for a high at Civic Center, LA. 80s and 90s with some spots reach 100 in the coastal valleys and Inland Empire. 100-108 in the high desert with Las Vegas around 108 today to 108-115 in the low deserts and the lower Colorado river valley. Phoenix should top around 112 today. Lows range from the upper 50s to low 60s from the beaches to coast range inlcuding the LA basin with the usual onshore push of stratus & fog. 70s from inland empire to high deserts of the Mojave, upper 70s for the rural and town areas of the low desert. Low to mid-80s for the cities of Vegas and Phoenix.
As for the PNW temps continue to trim back in Seattle from 95 on Thursday, 93 yesterday and likely 83 today, Upper 80s for Portland but still plenty warm and beautiful sunshine. 80s and 90s will be found east of the Cascades! Lows range from the low to mid-60s for the coastal plain, 40s and 50s for the mountains and 60s and 70s east of the mountains.
southern plains
Thanks to the front drapped across north-central Texas, thunderstorms are likely today from Lubbock to Dallas with highs in the upper 80s. Below the from and it should be sunny with highs topping 90-95 from San Antonio to Houston. We should also see more sunshine throughout the Rio Grande River Valley which has seen historic flooding of late with highs in the low 90s. Lows tonight should be uniformly in the 70s.
northern plains
A generally warm day but pretty much everywhere looks like they may say a thunderstorm develop. Highs range from the upper 80s to around 90 through the western Dakotas, mid-80s for eastern Dakotas and Minnesota and mid 80s throughout the Lower Midwest. Highs today... Bismarck, ND 93, Minneapolis 86, Chicago 85, St Louis 89. Lows will range from the 50s across the western region to around 70 from the eastern Dakotas to Chicago with around 75 at St Louis.

Weather Talk
By Mark Vogan
Looking at Britain large-scale weather
Glasgow is typical, whilst London is like the Med!
Note the strong, hot upper ridge over France which is pushing temperatures to 94 and above there. London and southeast England are enjoying the influence of this high, whilst notice the drop off in pressure heights as soon as you head northwards from London? As stated before London is far enough south and east to enjoy some of the warmth much of Europe typically enjoys when usually dissapointing weather remains in control of the rest of Britain as mid-latitude lows often drop across the northern half. More to come on the long-term pattern in tomorrow's weather talk.
