northeast & mid-atlantic
A dangerously hot day throughout the region from the Carolinas to Boston where MANY places will either take a run at or surpass 100 degrees with many records going to be smashed and even a few ALL-TIME records may be threatened. Highs today should be as follows:
Washington 102, Baltimore, 102, Philadelphia 102, Atlantic City 100, Trenton 102, Newark 105 (which would tie the all-time record) Central Park, NYC 101, LaGuardia Apt, NYC 103, Boston 97... Lows should hold in the low 80s for all downtowns of the major cities, mid to upper 70s in smaller townships and upper 60s for rural areas and shorelines.
southeast & florida
It will be a hot, humid day across the Southeast which lies on on the souther periphery of the gruelling ridge parked over the Mid-Atlantic states and is pumping 100s into the bid cities for the first time since August 2001. Highs should be around 90 for Atlantia with sunny skies, 95 for Charlotte, whilst points towards the Gulf Coast have a higher storm chance as the low has now pushed into Louisiana, raising the thudnerstorm activity from Houston to Biloxi as well as lowering temps today. Lows should be uniformly in the low 70s inland, whilst upper 70s reside down near the coast.
southwest & northwest
A cool pocket is positioned over Montana and drilling cooler air south into the central Rockies today, bringing rains over the north whilst raising t-storm potential over the central Rockies including Salt Lake where highs will be around 82 degrees today. Only 60s over Montana. However, risging is over the PNW and bringing a high of 79 for Seattle and 84 for Portland today under brilliant sunshine. Lows will be in the 60s for the coast, 60s over eastern WA and OR and perhaps 40s, even 30s over rain cooled Montana.
Across the Southwest, the usual morning, afternoon push and pull of the marine influence will control coastal weather from the beaches to downtown San Diego, LA and up to San Fran with typical lows and highs of 60 to mid-70s respectively. As for the desert. Influence of the N. Rockies shortwave trough, will hold highs at Las Vegas to around 103, with low tonight of 78. Phoenix will see around 104, low tonight around 80. Death Valley should top around 112 today!
northern plains
Today should be west over the western Plains as well as over the central and eastern plains but it will be a sunny one with pleasantly warm conditions over the eastern Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Highs should top 77 at International Falls, 87 at Minneapolis and 89 at Chicago with a chance of thunderstorms. It will be around 93 today at St Louis with a good chance of thunderstorms. Lows range from the 50s to the western Dakotas, 60s across the far northern plains, 70s from Fargo to Chicago.
southern plains
The lousiana low is keeping both rain chances high and temperature lower thanks to cloudiness and upper energy. Highs should top around 90 at both Houston and Dallas where PM showers are up to 50% likely by this afternoon. The energy and daytime heating should erupt a few boomers with tropical downpours associated. Further south and west between Brownsville to San Antonio, SHOULD see sunyshine and low 90s! Lows tonight will be in the 70s!
