After the snowfall pushed out, skies cleared and allowed for a cold start this morning throughout the Capital Region, NYC endured windchills in the mid-10s, Philly around 18-20.

TODAY'S WEATHER ACROSS UK & EUROPE

HIGH PRESSURE STILL LINGERS OVER UK PROVIDING SUNNY SKIES BUT NOT AS WARM, COLDER FOR CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE

High Pressure has remained over the UK over the past weekend which has meant fairly sunny skies for most, however, the air is certainly less warm than it was during last week and this is thanks to a flow out of the northwest which has ushered in cooler air. Last week with high pressure situated directly overhead, there was little, if any wind and certainly no air coming down from the northwest, thus we got warmer. It even felt slightly sticky last week.

As you can see from the above European for today, though there is high pressure overhead, the colours aren't as yello, in fact there is hints of green over Scotland, that's shows the cooler air and that can certainly be felt in the air.

Interestingly, the above European map is for Wednesday and if you notice, it would appear warmer, Atlantic air is trying to push back into Britain and rebuild the ridge already in place. Also notice the cold rebounds back north in Scandinavia, not warming much over Norward, Sweden and Finland by any means but that chillier air is retreating from the heart of the continent and replacing the air from France, up to the Netherlands eastwards into Germany etc.

And, finally, here is the map for Friday which looks practically warm for us here in the UK as a ridge pulls warm air northeastwards from the Azores up through Wales and into Scotland, across southern and central Norway and Sweden, even Helsinki, Finland which has been frigid. Does this pull off for this up coming Friday? If so how warm does it get? Stay tuned for more on this in the next couple of days.
