TODAY'S WEATHER ACROSS SCOTLAND & UK

NORTHERN UK WEATHER WARNING
SCOTTISH CENTRAL BELT & NORTHERN IRELAND TO SEE GUSTS OF 50-60MPH, HIGHLANDS AND ISLANDS OF SCOTLAND 70-90PH WITH MOUNTAIN TOPS POTENTIALLY TOPPING 110-120MPH TONIGHT!!!!
AFTER TODAY'S BREEZY TEASE FOR MOST ALONG WITH SUNNY SKIES, IT'S ALL 'SYSTEM' GO TONIGHT AS WINDS PICK UP TO GALE-FORCE HERE IN LENNOXTOWN SCATTERING GARDEN DECK CHAIRS, MINOR DAMAGE IS POSSIBLE!
NASTY WEATHER OF THIS MORNING WITH BLUSTERY WIND, HEAVY RAIN, SLEET, SNOW AND HAIL, WAS JUST THE CURTAIN RAISER TO TONIGHT'S 'STORMY' CONDITIONS!
Yes, this morning was pretty nasty with hefty off and on showers of which were intense and within those pulses carried by a brisk west to southwest wind flow, we saw torrential hailstorms which covered the ground in white across Glasgow and other Central Belt areas. As well as that we also saw sleet and snow showers which also produced a slushy coating and even a covering over elevated ground and at low levels. Over the north and across the Highlands, we saw significant snow accummulations.
Torrents of rain and powerful winds have arrived across the west of Scotland with gusts most certainly now clocking gale-force and for a time this evening, it may touch severe-gale criteria even in the populated heart of central Scotland. I am likely witnessing 40 to near 50mph gusts at the moment as my garden deck chairs are blown down. Winds may increase towards 60mph and if this occurs, some minor damage to properties and indeed trees may well occur.
Tonight's winds courtesy of low pressure to the north of Scotland, high pressure to the south of England, tightens the pressure gradient across the north of England and particularly Northern Ireland and Scotland, making for unequal pressure in which winds blow harder to try and equal pressures! The tigher the gradient the faster the winds blow and right now, the gradient is fairly large as you'll notice with the intensity of the wind blowing outside!
Tomorrow will bring more intense wind and rain into the PM hours after a possible relaxation of wind and rain tomorrow morning.
