48-degree High here marks the Coolest since April 18 but does this tell us anything about the winter ahead?

As of this writing (7pm) my thermomter outside is reading 48.2 degrees F, if this remains, it will be the coolest high here since way back on April 18 when it was 47 degrees.

Though Britain has enjoyed some balmy days of late, particularly further south towards the London area where highs have warmed into the low and mid-70s and even up here across areas of western Scotland where we have enjoyed some pleasant sunshine and highs warming into the 60s and around 70 degrees in some sheltered spots.

The cooler air continues to filter in from the continent and even across the London area, highs are only topping to low to mid-50s with nights that are creeping into the 40s, even in central London as the cooler air filters in.

The question is, is this cool down a sign of another tough winter to come? Remember that although October was cold in 2008, we saw mild weather in 2009 and a very mild, wet and windy November in 2009 before the onslught of what turned out to be one of the worst winter's on record for Scotland and the worst in 30 years for Britain as a whole.

I shall be commencing my type-up of my winter forecast late this weekend and whatever my result is, just remember to not be fooled by the weather we're having now, we me see truely wintry weather during the second half of October, perhaps a repeat of October 2008 when London saw accummulating snowfall and temperatures in some areas which fell to -5C or 22F, but that doesn't mean we're in for a bad winter. On the same level, I am also not saying we're in for an easy one either.

Like I've said, November of 2009 was warm and stormy across Britain, that was the month which brought the most rain in a 24-hour period to Britain, remember, Cumbria? Noone then though then, what kinda winter was ready to unfold, however I did forecast that nasty winter, but my goal is to try my utmost to predict as accurate of a forecast this year as I did last year.....

Will we see a White Christmas? How Cold? How much Snow?? My winter forecast will tell you this on October 31st...

Tracking the Bay Low:

The much hyped about low in the Bay is situated as on 11.30 pm IST of Tuesday, 12th. October, at 17.8N and 89.4E. Works out east of the Indian state of Orissa. With wind speed at 15 to 20 knots, and a core pressure of 1007 mb, it can be just about designated as a low. JTWC and Hurricane Zone still term it on the "Low Level Circulation" stage.

Estimated future for this system is a potential deepening after the 14th, and crossing the coast of Orissa on the 16th. as a deep depression, with a core of around 994 mb.

High tides and coastal gusts along the North A.P./Orissa coast from the evening of 15th. till the system crosses inland.

As of today, the situation shows the system weakening rapidly on going inland, and tracking west-northwest into Chattisgarh and Eastern M.P. It will skirt the eastern parts of Vidharbha.Rainfall will be along this track from 16th. October. Read More...

TODAY'S COND
A day which saw minimal sunlight, maximum cloudiness and mist, therefore holding the daytime high to the coolest since April 18. Interestingly, the 48 degree temperature stuck there from around 3pm right through the night and actually became the low for the next day!

Thanks for reading.
