CORE OF COLD LEAVING ALTNAHARRA TODAY AFTER TWO STRAIGHT MORNINGS BELOW -20C.... NOW IT'S THE CENTRAL BELT'S TURN FOR FRIGID COLD TONIGHT WITH WIDESPREAD -10s ALREADY!

After two consecutive nights in the freezer up in Altnaharra in Scotland's extreme north, the core of cold, arctic air sinks southwards and into the central lowlands. The heavy, persistent bands of snow that have blown in off the North Sea has shifted southwards into centrala nd southern England coasts bringing significant accummulations whilst clearer skies and colder air dropped south from the Highlands and into the Glasgow-Edinburgh corridor.

As of this writing, my temperature here at my home in Lennoxtown, East Dumbartonshire fell to an impressive -11C (12 degrees) but fog rolled in fast and sliced the cooling process and likely stopped temps dropping into the -12 to -17C range. Similar to what occured here last year during the heart of the cold spell.

At the moment (as of 11pm), Aberdeen is reading -14.4C (6 degrees), Aviemore -15.3C (4 degrees), Tulloch Bridge -14.4C (6 degrees), Strathallan -17.3C (1 degree) whilst it's not much warmer over the Central Belt with current readings of -10C (14 degrees) at Glasgow, -11C (12 degrees) at Edinburgh and -11C (12 degrees) at Livingston.

TOMORROW I SHALL DISCUSS THE FORECAST UP TILL CHRISTMAS AS WELL AS THE MOVMENT OF THE ARCTIC AIR!
